About Consecration To The Blessed Virgin According To

“Are you consecrated to Mary?” Bill asked. He was a young man discerning a vocation to the priesthood. “No,” I answered. I told him I’d never heard of consecration to Mary. You see, I had recently returned to the Church, after decades of being away. I was still getting back into the practice of the Faith. We were at a retreat house, and Bill took a Bible and began to show me things which I never knew about Mary. It was a real eye-opener for someone like me, because I thought I didn’t need the Blessed Mother in my life. If other people wanted to pray to her, that was fine. But I thought it was enough for me to pray straight to Jesus. I’m glad God sent me someone to show me how wrong I was. Looking back on it now, my knowledge of the Faith was just itsy-bitsy. Bill told me more about St. Louis de Montfort and consecration to Mary. I began to hang out with him, and he taught me a lot about the Faith. He’s the reason why I started praying the Rosary. The interesting thing is that he didn’t tell me to pray the whole Rosary. He told me to start with one decade a day. Our Lady took it from there, and pretty soon, I was praying all five decades. I was growing in my knowledge of the Faith. Everything was going well, and I made my consecration to Mary. Believe it or not, that’s when my problems started. I couldn’t figure out how to make my consecration “work” for me. Why wasn’t I experiencing all the wonderful benefits St. Louis had promised? I became really discouraged because I had such high hopes. For some unknown reason, I completely missed St. Louis’ warning… “I have found many people who, with admirable zeal, have adopted the exterior practices of this holy slavery of Jesus and Mary, but I have found only a few who have accepted its interior spirit, and still fewer who have persevered in it” (“The Secret of Mary”, #44). Even if I had noticed it, I wouldn’t have thought I’d be in that group of people. But I was. As you can imagine, I was pretty bummed out. I don’t like to fail at anything. So, I began searching for any books which could help me understand this devotion to Mary. The few English titles I found were all out-of-print. Since St. Louis was from France, I began searching for books in French. That’s how I discovered “Consecration to the Blessed Virgin according to St. Louis de Montfort”. Which is actually two-book-in-one. More on that in a second. This book got my spirits up again, because it explains the whats, whys, and hows of consecration to Mary. It was just what I was looking for. This devotion which St. Louis calls “…a mystery of grace unknown to even the wisest and most spiritual among Christians” (“True Devotion to Mary”, #21) became less and less mysterious. St. Louis promised… “Do not think, dear soul, that Mary, the most fruitful of all pure creatures, who has brought forth even a God, remains idle in a faithful soul. She will cause Jesus Christ to live in that soul, and the soul to live in constant union with Jesus Christ” (Secret, #56). I’m not quite there yet. But I’m on my way. If your devotion to Mary could use a boost – even if you’re not consecrated to her – this book is a great place to start. I mentioned that you get two-books-in-one. The second book is “Why Consecrate Myself to the Immaculate Heart of Mary?” It contains many things which Popes have said about devotion to Mary’s Immaculate Heart, which are not easily found elsewhere. Pick up your copy today, because it’ll put you in the rare group of people who understand what St. Louis insists is “…a secret unknown to almost all Christians, even the most devout” (True Devotion, #177).
