About Easy Christmas Hymns, Volume I: Simplified LDS
Learn LDS Christmas hymns easily with this new book. You get three different arrangements for each hymn, so you can pick the one that works most for you. Each arrangement is intended for a different skill level, so as you practice, you can move up in skill and arrangements. This volume, Volume I, includes 18 arrangements (3 for each song) of the following six hymns: Silent Night Joy to the World It Came Upon a Midnight Clear Angels We Have Heard on High Once in Royal David's City Oh, Come, All Ye Faithful *The book also comes with downloadable practice MP3s so you can play along with the recorded pianist. In general, Version A of each song has moving melodies in both hands, with more quarter notes on the left hand. Version B tends to have mostly half notes on the bottom hand, and the melody in the top hand. Version C is the simplest arrangement, and uses mostly whole notes for the bass clef and the melody in the top hand. *Because it is often hard for pianists to learn a song in one key and then have to "undo" their learning and relearn the song in another key, these arrangements use the original key signature found in the LDS hymnbook. This means you get practice using key signatures with a couple sharps or flats sometimes. We considered changing everything to the key of C, but that would make things harder for players in the long run, so we hope you appreciate the chance to get better at different key signatures! This really will be best in the long run, we promise! None of these songs use more than two flats or sharps, so it's not too difficult if you've been introduced to a few key signatures. Feel free to use the "Look Inside" feature and see the skill levels we've arranged for. Most second year and beyond students can play these songs, and even first years can play the version "C" of most of the included hymns, once they've learned the basics of piano playing. Get the whole set and really take off in your piano adventure! Or get your favorite volume and really improve your piano playing, plus enjoy the hymns in a way that is accessible to most piano players. Enjoy!
