About Amish Voices: A Collection Of Amish Writings

Product Description Strong families. Caring communities. The nearly nine in ten youth who join the church. How do the Amish do it? In Amish Voices, Amish writers share news and advice from their communities and reflect on their daily lives, work, and faith. Brad Igou, publisher of Amish Country News, gives readers a behind-the-scenes tour of Amish life by compiling writing from Family Life, a popular monthly magazine that thousands of Amish people read. Learn about how the Amish began and what they value. Hear what they think about technology, happiness, community, obedience, success, and change. Listen in as they discuss shunning and rumspringa and forgiveness. Find out what sustains them in difficult seasons, and how they try to trust God in all things. Why learn about the Amish from outsiders when you can learn from the Amish themselves? And why just learn about them when you can learn from them? Review “Reading this book is like sitting down with Amish friends over coffee and listening as they answer every question you ever had about their lives and ways and beliefs. This book makes for compelling reading and is an excellent resource for anyone interested in learning more about the Amish.” (Mindy Starns Clark, author of Plain Answers about the Amish Life and other books) “Brad Igou’s Amish Voices is a heartwarming compilation of beautiful Amish letters that will move readers to tears and laugh aloud. The stories will stay with readers long after they finish the book and will offer a greater understanding of the Amish faith and lifestyle. Once readers open this book, they won’t put it down until they’ve reached the last page.” (Amy Clipston, bestselling author of A Welcome at Our Door and other books) “Covering topics as diverse as Amish origins, dress, ministers’ meetings, ordinations, and beards, Amish Voices is an insider’s look at Amish life. Brad Igou lets the Amish speak, and the stories they tell are wonderful!” (Karen Johnson-Weiner, author of Train Up a Child and coauthor of The Amish) “In Amish Voices, we get a taste of the reading material found in Old Order homes across North America. We find the words and sentiments of ordinary Amish people, homespun proverbs, and practical wisdom.” (Steven M. Nolt, author of The Amish: A Concise Introduction) “This book lets the Amish speak in their own voice. Anyone who reads these forthright, plainspoken, and honest reflections will need to give up the notion that the Amish are a people frozen in time.” (John D. Roth, editor of Mennonite Quarterly Review) “Hear from the Amish in their own words in this wide-ranging collection of writings spanning decades. An essential compilation of Amish perspectives on the things that matter.” (Erik Wesner, author of Success Made Simple and founder of AmishAmerica.com) "Why learn about the Amish from outsiders when you can learn from the Amish themselves? And why just learn about them when you can learn from them?" (Midwest Book Review: Wisconsin Book Watch) About the Author <p>Brad Igou first became interested in the Amish of Lancaster County as a tour guide and came to know some Amish personally.
