The reason is the large newly developed 12.1 Megapixel Live MOS Sensor and advanced Image processing from the LUMIX Venus Engine. In addition to the basic features desired in DSLR cameras including quick accurate auto focus, DMC-GF5 features a host of options that make photography even more artistic yet easy – enjoyable enough for users seeking to step up from a compact digital camera. Complying with the established Micro Four Thirds “mirrorless” standard, the widest range of interchangeable lenses is offered to expand the photographic experience and your love of photography. New 12.1-Megapixel Live MOS Sensor and Venus Engine True Picture Quality The DMC-GF5 is a stylish camera in compact size thanks to the elimination of mirrors found in DSLR that were designed in the days of film. Yes it retains the fundamental excellent performance of an interchangeable lens system camera, only it was designed for the modern digital age. DMC-GF5 incorporates a newly developed 12.1-megapixel Live MOS (image sensor) which features high sensitivity signal processing. Optimization of on-chip filters realizes image recording with even higher sensitivity at max. ISO12800. Both photodiode circuit and readout circuit are also optimized to minimize noise generation through processing to readout. Furthermore, newly added NR (Noise Reduction) circuit completes Panasonic’s excellent noise reduction system that thoroughly removes noise left at final processing stage. The image processor Venus Engine uses a combination of 3DNR(3D Noise Reduction) and MNR (Multi-process Noise Reduction), both bright area and dark area are faithfully reproduced with minimum noise in high sensitivity picture recording. Class Leading Fast Auto Focus All cameras of LUMIX G Micro System adopt Contrast AF for its focus system. Compared with the Phase difference system AF used in legacy DLSR cameras, the Contrast AF boasts higher accuracy. The DMC-GF5 features the class leading**** ultra-high-speed (approx. 0.09 second) of Light Speed AF and high precision touch enabled pin-point AF that makes it possible to capture even the fast-moving subject clearly. Not only thanks to contrast based focus accuracy, but its speed also excels like that of traditional DSLRs with Phase difference. Combined with the Touch AF control, setting and focusing at the subject is incredibly easy and quick, never missing the spur-of-the-moment. Taking further advantage of Contrast AF, the DMC-GF5 incorporates Full-area focusing which makes it possible to set focus on any point in the field of view. Frame composition is free and intuitive combining the touch-control operation. The touch-control system of DMC-GF5 immediately lets users to set focus to the subject by just touching it on the LCD and you can even release the shutter. Once you lock on the subject by a touch, the camera tracks the subject with the AF tracking function even if it moves. Pinpoint AF function is incorporated in DMC-GF5 allowing more precise focus setting by further enlarging the focusing area.
