About the Author The Author: James W. Syfers received his Ph.D. from the University of Iowa in 1963. He is currently Professor of Philosophy at San Francisco State University, Director of the Center for the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, and a board member of the Meiklejohn Civil Liberties Institute, Berkeley, California.
