Air Flow Decor It is very easy to ensure that you order the properly sized vent the first time, but in order to do so you need to be aware of a few basic rules. Air registers & grilles are ordered by the size of the actual duct opening in the wall, floor or ceiling that the vent will fit into or cover, not the overall size of the existing vent cover! If you are ordering a wall return air grille or return air filter grille, please note that these are directional.You must order by the duct opening size WIDTH X HEIGHT. This is critical if the grille is on the wall. HORIZONTAL EXAMPLE: If the hole size is 24 wide by 14 tall, you would order size 24x14. VERTICAL EXAMPLE: If the hole size is 14 wide by 24 tall, you would order size 14x24. Follow these steps to ensure you are taking the correct measurements STEP 1:Remove your existing vent cover, do not measure your existing cover. STEP 2:Measure the duct opening in your floor, wall, or ceiling. (LENGTH IN INCHES -BY- HEIGHT IN INCHES) This is your duct opening size. STEP 3:Match the duct opening size to the corresponding vent cover size listed on the product listing. The length and height of your duct opening should match the width and the length of specific register/grille. Please note these key terms: Supply Register: A vent/grille through which the air will blow out into the room, it will usually have a damper on the back. Return Grille: A grille through which the air is taken back from the room and into the return duct (it is sucked back into the wall).
