The book, Breast Implants and the D.I.R.T. Committee (Document Investigation and Review Team) tells the inside story of secret documents sourced from the implant manufacturers own offices. These documents tell a story that is a far cry from the 'absolutely safe' mantra that has been the conventional wisdom of our time. The D.I.R.T. committee was a team made up of top executives at Dow many years ago. Because women were complaining of serious illness that they suspected to be from their implants, the FDA ordered Dow to surrender all paperwork regarding their implant business including laboratory studies. Dow had a short window of time to prepare this hand over of material and their team had one goal which was to destroy incriminating documents beforehand. The purge missed some of the hot documents and they have since come to light. Armed with the extensive evidence, author Gail Hamilton shares her personal journey and the callous attitude that this large industry has toward the physical welfare and lives of so many. Hamilton has done a brilliant job researching, assembling and marshaling the hundreds of thousands of documents that make this book such a compelling read. Had her circumstances been different she would have made an excellent lawyer, clinical researcher or investigative reporter.
