Use 28 gauge bezel wire for light/odd shaped cabochons. This light-weight bezel wire will take on the shape of any cabochon. To secure heavier cabochons into their settings, use 26 gauge bezel wire.
Choose bezel wire that measures at least 1mm more than where the cabochon just starts to curve into the dome. After soldering, sand/saw the height of the bezel if it covers too much of the cabochon.
Included with each bezel wire is a jeweler's tip sheet or article.
Decorate your bezel with twisted, beaded or patterned wire for a custom touch.
Use any silver solder used for jewelry making. Fine silver doesn't need pickling. If soldering the bezel onto a Sterling plate, however, it will need pickle to remove oxidation from the Sterling.
Fine silver contains more pure silver than Sterling. Common Sterling contains 92.5% silver and fine silver, like this bezel wire, contains 99.9% pure silver. This means that Sterling will tarnish over time and fine silver, like this bezel wire, resists any tarnishing. Use this beautiful bezel wire to capture cabochons in hand-made settings. Use 26 gauge, or heavier, wire to forge links into handmade chains similar to the “Rolo” style chain. This wire bends and shapes around any cabochon easily. It solders beautifully and can be soldered onto Sterling as well as copper, brass and Argentium. Several sizes should cover most needs. This wire Includes a jewelry-making tip sheet that could be as valuable as the wire itself. Enjoy, and have a creative day!
