About ECM RECORDS The Artists

ECM The Artists, part of a two volume set compiled by jazz veteran, Michael Malott that covers every recording and artist ever associated with the ECM Record label. In ECM The Artists, the first volume of the set, Malott has compiled brief biographies on every ECM recording artist and musician who appears as a sideman on ECM recordings dating from 1969 to 2015. In 1969, Eicher released the first ECM album by jazz artist Mal Waldron and continued to introduce a long line up of incredible jazz talent including Chick Corea, Gary Burton, Jan Garbarek, Pat Metheny, Keith Jarrett, John Abercombie, the Art Ensemble of Chicago, and on…. The Koln Concerts by Keith Jarrett remains one of the top selling jazz albums in history. In 1984, Eicher introduced the ECM New Series as an avenue to release a great catalog of Western Classical recordings. The series was created for the debut recording for the incredible genies of Arvo Pärt. ECM has released well over a thousand album releases, most produced by Eicher himself. This book is not endorsed or affiliated with ECM Records and its origin was being a reference for radio DJ's along with its sister book, Volume 2, which features a complete and comprehensive discography of every commercial ECM recording.
