'Painting Manual of the Mustard Seed Garden' is also know as the 'The Mustard Seed Garden Manual of Painting'. The book contains three volumes, the first published in 1679 and the other two published in 1701, covering paintings of hills, trees, figures, houses, plum blossoms, orchids, bamboos, chrysanthemums, grass and insects, flowers, animals and birds. In every volume, painting methods are firstly introduced sometimes in a way of verses, then the styles of different painters are explained, finally the author's copies of different painters' works are presented. Starting from introducing the ways of painting grass or a tree step by step using a simple language, it provides specific rudimentary methods to make it easy for beginners to learn.
