About Obra Gruesa / Rough Work: Illustrated Architecture

24 key works of the Chilean star architect Smiljan Radic A superstar in his home country of Chile for many years, architect Smiljan Radic (born 1965) became known internationally in 2014 with the debut of his work at the Serpentine Pavilion of the eponymous gallery site in London. The extraordinary semi-translucent structure was hardly his first major piece, however. Since the 1990s, Radic has designed some of Chile’s most impressive buildings, using his signature minimalist approach to create sculptural pieces of architecture that respond to their environments. This richly illustrated volume presents 24 of Radic’s key works produced between 1990 and 2015, accompanied by numerous sketches and construction drawings that provide essential insight into the artist’s process. Alongside its visual components, this publication also contains two new essays by Spanish architect Moises Puente and Swiss curator Hans Ulrich Obrist, who also serves as artistic director at the Serpentine Galleries.
