About On Display: I Will Never Be Your Mannequin
I Will Never Be Your Mannequin is a slice of a 20-year photography project, On Display, featuring shots of window displays from across the United States and Canada. Since 2000, Tamara Dunn has photographed a variety of store windows, from New York City to Quakertown, Pennsylvania, from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, to Kansas City, Missouri, and from Toronto to Boulder, Colorado. This photo zine examines the displays that feature mannequins of color and how they are used to attract customers. Many displays have not reflected the diversity of the towns and cities in which they are present, nor do they capture what the socio-economic trends are saying. In rare occurrences, however, stores in certain sectors mirror their consumer base.
