Often times, it is hard to tell our fears to go away, and when we do, they can feel even bigger. This children's picture book helps readers learn to face their fear instead of running away from it. In the popular bible story of Daniel and the lion's den (Daniel 6:1-28), Daniel is thrown into a den with hungry lions and is faced with a very scary situation. Despite the lions, he gives his fears to God and trusts that He would take care of him. You could only imagine what was going on through Daniel's head in the den! The book identifies three common fears, or "lions" for kids: being at school, getting sick, and traveling on a plane. The story helps the reader see each fearful situation from the perspective of Daniel as he's in the den. Though Daniel is faced with real lions, he receives peace from God because he knows God is bigger than the lions. God enables Daniel to do the unthinkable, to actually "sit with lions" and have peace. It is a beautiful picture of how God wants us to live our lives in view of situations that can feel scary to us! We too can find peace in the presence of an uncomfortable situation because we know our security ultimately comes from Him. Like Daniel sat with lions, we can "sit with lions" too. We can view any situation in light of our Savior, and not be afraid, but be BRAVE like Daniel. 2 Timothy 1:7 (NLT) reminds us that God did not create in us a spirit of fear, but of love, power, and a mind that is disciplined. Just as Daniel did, we can find rest in God, the sole comforter of our life, who by the grace and power that comes from His all-mighty hand, enables us to also sit with lions, and have victory over our biggest fears.
