The Mysteries of Udolpho dramatisation is highly accessible for a student of the work. This is remarkable as ‘The Mysteries of Udolpho’ is a gothic work of approximately 700 pages in length which has not typically been dramatised. This brings a key piece of late Eighteenth Century literature to a contemporary audience. Dr Diffey was Head of the English Department at Roedean School from 1964 to 1977. She worked for several years on this dramatisation and adaptation of ‘The Mysteries of Udolpho’ into the format of a play.
