This is the dawn of a new generation of Texas songwriters - of those who grew up in any small town where country and western was not only music, but a lifestyle - until somewhere in their teens, they discovered the romantic angst and rebellion of punk rock. The conflicts of these two worlds - pitted cowboy football players against dark, angry misfits, and the music of either camp ever combining was not even a blip on the radar. But now, the artists are in their late twenties and have reconciled the black and white contrast of the past and have produced a musical hybrid that captures the glory of both.Colin Gilmore (son of Texas music legend Jimmie Dale Gilmore) is one such artist and this new chapter in the History of Texas Music commences with the release of his debut album, The Day the World Stopped and Spun the Other Way. Produced by Mark Hallman (Ani DiFranco, Eliza Gilkyson), this album is also a showcase for some of Austin's best musicians, including guitarist Rob Gjersoe (Flatlanders, Jimmie Dale Gilmore), accordion/keyboardist Bukka Allen (Robert Earl Keen, Will Sexton), Kris Nelson on bass and Robb Hooper on drums; Australian Audrey Auld (and BDC artist) contributes her vocals to a track.
