The Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists recommends Munchables for their ability to “replace inappropriate chewing behavior and to provide potential regulating effects for the sensory system - reducing fidgeting and promoting attention and focus.” (2019) Munchables are chewable jewelry that is ideal for diverting chewing from fingers, clothing, hair, and other items. Our sensory chew necklaces, bracelets, zipper pulls and pencil toppers act not only as stylish sensory aids, but also provide a focal point which can help kids filter out excess sensory information. This can help children self-regulate and encourage calm and focus. Munchables are especially beneficial for children with ADHD, anxiety, autism or sensory processing disorder. There is a great deal of research that shows that oral sensory aides can provide a calming, organizing, and focusing response (Scheerer, 1992). Which Munchable is right for my child? Munchables offers an extensive range of chew necklaces, bracelets, zipper pulls and pencil toppers. While most of our styles were designed with kids in mind, we have several options that would also be appropriate for adults, such as the Lotus, Infinity, Tree, Leaf, Scribbles, Surfboard, Rectangle and Triangle Pendant.
