European Elderflower (Sambucus nigra) comes from the elder tree, a flowering shrub in the honeysuckle family. All parts of the elder tree, including elderberries and elderwood, have been used in folk medicine and ancient rituals since around 2000 BC. The Celts used to plant elder trees on the graves of their loved ones, believing that the elderflower blossoms were evidence of happy souls. Ancient Egyptians would use elderflower infusions as face creams or add them to baths for medicinal purposes. Elderflowers are rich in multiple antioxidants and vitamin C.*Elderflowers are often used for making infusions like elderflower cordials and organic elderflower tea. They pair well with other mild herbs like chamomile and meadowsweet. Elderflowers can also be infused in oil for use in lotions, creams, and balms.For elderflowers, "cut & sifted" and "whole" are generally the same thing, as elderflowers can be sifted but are generally too tiny to be cut smaller than they already are.Store in a sealed container in a cool, dry place.
