Named after the Canadian badminton world champion Jack Purcell, the Converse Jack Purcell was designed and produced by the B.F. Goodrich Company in 1935. The original design featured an encapsulated toe, canvas upper and a rubber outsole. In 1972 Converse purchased B.F. Goodrich's rubber division and altered the design slightly with the addition of metal eyelets and a thicker inner sole.
