A signature dark roast blend since 2003, our Death's Door coffee blends the best beans from Costa Rica and Sumatra to form one of our smoothest dark roasts you will ever drink. Porte des Morts - or locally referred to as Death's Door - is a strait located on the very tip of Door County Wisconsin linking Lake Michigan and the bay of Green Bay. It is exactly 36.1 miles from our café and roasting facility. This area, located between the tip of Door County and Washington Island, is a very narrow strait with shoals extended far from shore. If you could just imagine on a very cold early winter night before the ice moved in - the wind howling - the snow blowing - and someone trying to sail through those very rough waters. It takes a hearty soul to make that voyage. Today, the passage is crossed regularly as people take the ferries from the mainland to the islands. It's a truly beautiful area - but in the times before our modern ships and technology, it could be dangerous. Our Death's Door Dark Roast coffee harkens you back to the time when you needed a strong, full-bodied coffee to get you through the night and through the straight. When you sip this coffee - we always ask that you raise your mug occasionally as a salute to the sailors that passed through Death's Door.
