Ruby Muhly Grass (Muhlenbergia reverchonii ) - Ruby Muhly grass, with Latin name Muhlenbergia reverchonii, is a type of ornamental grass that grows in various areas across the United States although it is native to Texas. Blue/green needle like foliage, giving it a stiff upright growth habit, and can get 3 - 4 feet in height and a 2 - 3 foot spread. A real show in the fall with flowers that look like a purple cloud from far away, giving a spectacular fall color show. Grows in drought conditions as well as wet conditions. It is one of the top choices when choosing ornamental grasses for landscaping due to its beautiful purple blooms, which are billowing and delicate. Ruby muhly grass is the most common type of this ornamental grass, and the purplish tinge is a wonderful addition to any landscape. Ruby muhly grass prefers to be grown in full sun. Make sure that you plant the ornamental grass seeds in an area where it will be able to get at least six to eight hours of sunlight. Ruby muhly ornamental grass can also tolerate partial shade, however, dense shade is not an option. Ruby muhly grass grows best in fertile, organic soil. If ever you are planting in clay, sandy soil, or other poor conditions for your soil, you can add a healthy dose of organic matter for the muhly grass to grow better. You can also check the pH level of the soil and make sure it is between the range of 5.5 to 6.8. You do not need to worry about diseases and pests since muhly grass is a type of ornamental grass which is quite resistant against those problems.
