If you have hard surface flooring (wood, tile, etc..) or short pile commercial carpet (1/4" thick or less) a 5mm chairmat is recommended. If you have carpet which measures around 1/2" thick or less (medium pile) a 8mm chairmat is recommended. If you have plush carpet (shag, thick pile wall to wall) 3/4" thick or less a 12mm thick chairmat is recommended. Choosing the right thickness for your chairmat will deliver the best performance and longest life.
