Iittala continues to release the extraordinary glass vases of the late Finnish architect Alvar Aalto in new colors and styles. Aalto, whose name means "wave" in Finnish, designed the now iconic undulating glassware in 1936 for a tableware competition in correlation with the following year's Paris Exposition. Larger and smaller versions of the originals, including this 4-3/4-inch-high vase, comprise an innovative and universally popular design collection. Iittala commemorates the 70th anniversary of Aalto's free-form vases in 2006 with a vibrant aqua option known as Petrol Blue, as well as re-releases of the original brown and green. The Aalto vase, available in several sizes, also comes in clear, opaque white, and dual-tones. Crafted in Finland and inscribed with Alvar Aalto's name on the bottom, the vase makes an exceptional gift that augments any modern home or office setting.
