About the Artist Childhood and youth happened in Ohio and Indiana. The Ohio River Valley and the southern edges of the Great Lakes are the long threads of my fabric. Toledo, Indianapolis, Cleveland, Cincinnati. Punctuating an otherwise middleclass suburban existence were memorable times spent working on family farms and in rust-belt factories in other, smaller towns. Good stuff for a songwriter, and reason enough to go to college. After college, I bolted the midwest for good, landing in the New York City area where I spent six quintessential East Coast years launching a career in industrial and graphic design. In '72, I moved to Southern California, a single father with two young children, and have managed to hug the golden coast for 30 years; Manhattan Beach, Venice, Santa Monica and finally Santa Barbara. Eight years ago, I began writing songs. A bit later, I had two or three songs under my belt when a local songwriting workshop came to my attention. I will always be profoundly grateful to Jim Messina (Buffalo Springfield, Poco, Loggins & Messina) for those weekly sessions and the subsequent extended seminars. Jimmy was incredibly supportive and a bottomless well of talent, professionalism and experience. The workshops spurred and honed my efforts, and they created a wonderfully active, supportive network of songwriters and performers in the Santa Barbara area. Workshop bonus: There I met and eventually married the beautiful singer/songwriter Kate Bennett. Thanks, Jim. These days, Kate and I perform together. I back her songs with harmonica, she backs mine with vocals. I also have the great pleasure and benefit of my youngest son, Keegan, playing lead guitar with me - the erstwhile 2Bisch'n' Blues Band. Product Description 'It's an almost even mix of jazzy blues and country - a mix that only Gatemouth Brown and Willie Nelson seem able to pull off. Until now, that is. Bisch does a fine job of mixing the two... music fans, those interested in true quality songs and performances, will like it just fine. FreightTrainboogie.com '...rather than merely mirroring current trends in the music business, Jeff Bisch has absorbed the influences of time-tested songwriters such as Springsteen, Waits, Croce and Chapin into his material. With a weather-beaten voice that seems destined to deliver late-night-in-a-bar torch songs, Bisch sings of the burdens of every day life, of families, of fires that destroy homes, relationships that aren't quite ready to die and more. Indeed, I could see many of these songs becoming bar-room classics, 'Wildcat of Mt. Gillead' in particular... MusesMuse.com 'There's a whole lotta livin' packed into that voice. And the man can write. This is earthy music. Sawdust on the floor, taste of whiskey and cigarettes, cowboy hats, and August moon. One of my favorite tracks is 'The Obvious Blues,' which takes every sorry event you've ever heard in a blues song and packs it into one twangy track...Overall, an enjoyable CD, and one that country fans in particular will gobble right up. Indie-Music.com '...it's a very familiar yet distant sound, distant in the sense that it's hard to believe that there are people alive today who sing like that, and not just to be heard on old records...' 'Jeff's songs were ALL first-rate, especially [Daddy Swing Me Higher]; very moving in the same way as Joni's Circle Game, and yes it made me cry.' 'Jeff's voice has such an authenticity to it, and his blues playing on a subtle yet insightful song like 'Obvious Blues' is pure delight...another title, 'Crucifix' was very moving...' .''...[one of the] highlights for me was getting to hear someone as authentic-sounding as Jeff sing in that low drawl...'
