A book of poetry by Rhode Island poet, Tyler Cordeiro, describing the journey of a trans boy in high school, covering societal issues, gender dysphoria, mental illness, and the search for happiness. For anyone struggling with finding their gender identity or sexuality, you are valid. You are strong and you matter. From the author: There are certain things that society tells us will make us happy that are really just void of meaning, judgmental and feed into depression and self-hate. This is what a rose represents, something that is so beautiful and fulfilling on the outside, but like salt water, the more you drink it, or attempt to find purpose in it, the thirstier you will get. What I am attempting to do in this book is to point out how many feel as though we are drowning in the salt water of the ocean that society has created around us and that the only way to heal is to plant our own roses. Accept ourselves for who we really are and find true meaning and purpose in that. This book for me, paints my personal struggle with depression and self-esteem issues, shows how I escaped the things in my life that were making me drown, planted my own roses and came out on top. My passion in life is to plant these roses in the minds of others too.
