About Charbonnel Lefranc & Bourgeois
The pigments in Charbonnel Soft Black Ball Ground are chosen for their excellent lightfastness and low acidity, then blended with top-quality oils and finely milled. This soft black ball ground has an black opaque matte finish and allows for fine detail or deep etched lines. Soft grounds protect the etching plate, and because they are non-drying, allow for textures and materials pressed into their non-drying surface to lift off, leaving the metal bared, ready for the bite of the acid. A "Pencil Method" may also be used - consists of drawing with a hard point on "laid" paper applied over the soft ground. The paper sticks to the drawn parts, and exposes the etching plate - after the bite of the acid, a pencil stroke effect is obtained.
