About the Artist Steeped in passion and relentlessly committed to his craft, Jo-El Sonnier has been the undisputed "King of Cajun" for the past 20 years and occupies a significant place in the rich artistic landscape of this country. Born in Rayne, Louisiana to poor, French-speaking sharecroppers, he began to play accordion at three years of age, debuted on radio at age six, and recorded his first session at age 11. Honored by the National Acadeny of Recording Arts and Sciences and by the Cajun French Music Association, Jo-El gives 100% of himself to his music insuring that his heritage doesn't die.
