About Soapstone Giraffe - Figurine Sculpture - Handmade
These unique african figurines are handmade from white soapstone, a relatively soft stone which is found in region of Kisii, south western Kenya. Locally known as ''Kisii stone'', the stone is worked with a hammer and chisel in order to give a particular shape, by local artisans specialized in soapstone carvings. Then sandpaper is used until the stone is perfectly smooth. Now the paint can be applied and once it is dried, the particular pattern is etched with a kisu (small knife). Please note, patterns can differ according each artisan imagination. Approximately: 2'' Height x 3'' Long.
