About Mitutoyo 511-521 ABSOLUTE Digimatic LCD Bore
The Mitutoyo 511-521 bore gage has a measurement range of 1.8 to 4”, a 6” probe depth, and 0.00005” resolution, with + or - 0.00012” accuracy. The gage has a liquid crystal display (LCD) for easy measurement reading, that operates on one SR44 battery (included). Estimated battery life under normal conditions is nine months. Gage housing conforms to IP53 (Ingress Protection) for dust and water protection. Mitutoyo 511-521 includes functions for origin-set, zero-set, power on/off, inch/metric conversion, Statistical Process Control (SPC) data output, Go/No Go judgment, and alarms for low battery, scale contamination, overflow error, and tolerance limit setting error. Acceptable operating temperature range is from 0 to 40 degrees C. The bore gage is compatible with extension rods for deep bore measurement (not included). Up to four 20” extension rods can be used; this unit is also compatible with 10” rods. Bore gage weight is 1.10 lbs. Bore gages measure holes, or bores, in a workpiece. They can measure the interior diameter of a hole at any depth, while internal micrometers can only measure to the depth of their teeth. Bore gages are typically calibrated with a setting ring. Bore gages come in two types, one simple, and the other direct-measuring. Simple bore gages are used with a caliper to transfer the hole measurement, while the more complex gages take the measurement directly, and display the measurement through a vernier, dial, or digital display. Bore gages have a two- or three-point contact, which indicates how many points on the gage head touch the inside of the bore. Two-point contacts are better at measuring ovality, while three-point systems are used to measure lobing, or triangular form error. Pistol-grip bore gages are used for fast, single-handed operation with good repeatability from one operator to another. Bore gages, regardless of type, can be used in some special applications, such as measuring threads, spline pitch diameters, and deep bores.
