1934 LAUNCH OF THE MALONGO BRAND In 1934, in Nice, a small roasting house was created: Cafés Malongo. The post-war period marked the launch of the brand on the airwaves. A radio soap opera, “La pastrouil de Tante Victorine”, contributes to its regional notoriety. Sales develop within a radius of 100 km, annual production climbs to 40 tons. 1952 FIRST ROASTER IN THE ALPES-MARITIMES It became the Compagnie Méditerranéenne des Cafés Malongo. The leading roaster in the Alpes-Maritimes, it now shines in the south-east of France. Agencies are created in Marseille, Toulon, Aubagne. Its fame is based on four products: the Express, in its green packaging, the Italian Taste, in its purple packaging, the French Taste, in its yellow packaging and the Decaffeinated in its pink packaging. 1962 METAL VACUUM CANS Under the leadership of its directors, Ms. Fulconis and Liprandi, the company attempted a daring innovation: vacuum-packed metal cans. But the consumer is not yet ready for this novelty. Sales are dropping. They will not regain their level until two years later. 1968 THE TAKEOVER BY MR. HUGO ROMBOUTS The company is taking a new turn. Mr. Hugo Rombouts buys it, accelerates its development. It was the beginning of the conquest of the hotel and restaurant market. 1980 THE SUCCESS OF PURE ORIGINS BOXES The factory is transferred from the Turin road to the Carros industrial zone. General management is entrusted to Mr. Jean-Pierre Blanc. The 80s are difficult. Coffee prices are high but the company does not want to increase the price of its products. Success will finally be there , with the launch of the Pures Origines, Grande Réserve and Suprêmo boxes. In Cannes and Nice, Malongo opened the first tasting shops and at the same time embarked on an ambitious research project: dose machines. 1992 THE BEGINNING OF THE FAIR TRADE ADVENTURE Jean-Pierre Blanc meets Padre van der Hoff, founder of fair trade . Malongo will work with small producers and invest in this area for long term.
