The candy known as conversation hearts come from a 145 year old tradition of putting small notes inside a hard candy shell. These candies called "Crackles" came in many different shapes, and the candies became more popular the shapes started to standardize into the heart shapes predominantly used on Valentine's Day. In 1847 the candies evolved to have the messages printed directly on the small sugary hearts. Since then the messages have been updated several times to become more modern and keep up with trends. So much has changed since the first Ferrara candy rolled off the line and into stores in 1908. But the same creativity and innovation that fed those early years remains at the heart of our company. In fact, it's what has made us the number one non-chocolate candy manufacturer in the U.S. Our mission is to take the brands that have been loved for generations to the next level. In 2012, we acquired Brach's which was created by a German immigrant by the name of Emil J. Brach in 1904. We are continuing to bring the best-tasting, highest-quality confections to the marketplace while respecting the nostalgia of the family favorites.
