Chaga Mushrooms (Inonotus obliquus) have been harvested, boiled, and consumed for centuries throughout Northern Europe and Russia. Chaga grows wild in the Canadian north on Yellow and White Birch trees, often taking years to fully mature into what looks like protruding charcoal nugget. Do not be deceived however, Chaga is respected worldwide for its numerous health benefits, and now Tao Tea Leaf makes it readily available for you. Origin: Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Scientific Name: Inonotus obliquus Taste: Woody and loam notes. How to consume: Bring to a boil 1L of water. Let cool to approximately 70C. Add in some Chaga nuggets (40g) and let boil for 20min. Alternatively, brew the Chaga for 8hours to create a more stronger tasting infusion. Expect the water to become dark, similar to black coffee. Next, strain the liquor into a cup or re-sealable glass and enjoy. You can store the Chaga decoction for several days in a refrigerator or freeze any excess in ice-cube trays for later consumption. You can also reuse each chunk several times, simply re-brew it until the water no longer becomes dark.
