Amazon.com On Twisted Desire, Austin's 8 1/2 Souvenirs submerge their Hot Club jazz influences into a more commercial pop-rock mix calculated to appeal to fans of (with whom the band toured in 1998, not coincidentally). Since the recording of the Souvenirs' previous album, Happy Feet, the band's lineup has undergone an almost total overhaul, with only founder-guitarist Olivier Giraud remaining. Vocalist Chrysta Bell, who joined just prior to the release of Happy Feet, certainly looks the part of a chanteuse, though her singing is more influenced by modern pop than vintage swing and jazz. Except for covers of ZZ Top's "Sharp Dressed Man" and 's "Lonely in Love," all the material is original and includes influences from rockabilly to ska as well as swing. Longtime fans will miss Glover Gill's elegantly funky cocktail-jazz piano stylings. --Rick Mitchell
